| About Marty Mulcahey |
Born in Galena and a graduate of Durand High School, Marty attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb where he earned a degree in Political Science. Marty advocates volunteerism and has been a strong supporter of the American Red Cross, having served as the board chair, volunteered in Mississippi for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, and now serves as the volunteer Government Relations Manager for the Northwest Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Marty and his wife Jennifer reside in Galena with their three children, Danielle (17), Amanda (16) and Ryan (14). Jennifer is a professional ballroom dance instructor with 16 years of ballroom dance experience and enjoys teaching both adults and youth. Together, Marty and Jennifer own and operate a ballroom dance studio in Dubuque, Iowa - www.BallroomByJennifer.com Marty is also a Principal in the consulting group Great River International (GRI) - dedicated to attracting new investment, business and jobs into the region while assisting existing employers to be more competitive in an international economy. While employed by Illinois' Secretary of State Jesse White, Marty has helped usher ethics back into the Secretary of State's office. As a Field Liaison, Marty worked with Driver's Facility staff, local officials, schools and others to bring change to the daily operations of the office and expand services throughout northwest Illinois. Despite defeat in a highly spirited, well coordinated and issue oriented campaign, Marty continued pursuing economic development in northwest Illinois. After drafting legislation to create the Upper Mississippi River International Port District, Marty secured a chief legislative sponsor, Senator Mike Jacobs (Moline) and worked with leadership in the House and Senate to educate them on the importance and potential of the project. The bill, SB 1784, was signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn, on August 24, 2009. Marty is a proud resident of northwest Illinois who shares a common bond with others in the region..... a bond of family and community, living among the rolling hills, farms, cities and villages of northwest Illinois. Through private enterprise or public service, Marty is passionate in working on behalf of our communities to help make are region a better place to live, work and raise our families! Marty believes strongly in working together and putting aside political differences to begin laying the groundwork for progress in northwest Illinois with a "new generation of leadership." He is a member of the Galena Lions, the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce (Ballroom By Jennifer), and the Knights of Columbus. He is fourth of six children to Dick and Anna Mae Mulcahey.
