Marty Mulcahey, who has promoted job creation, economic development and the passage of the Upper Mississippi River International Port District as a community activist and political candidate, applauds Illinois Governor Pat Quinn for signing important legislation creating the port authority. Mulcahey, who consulted on legislative content with maritime attorney and port authority expert Warren Jackman, is committed to the success and funding of the new port authority located on the Mississippi River and the BNSF main line. Mulcahey recently joined the newly established Great River International Group (GRI), a consulting group focused on attracting and assisting new and existing business and industry to Port District.
History

In late summer of 2006, Marty became involved with the Savanna Army Depot Local Redevelopment Authority (LRA) in his interest to promote economic development at the closed Army base and throughout Northwest Illinois. His involvement with the LRA inspired Marty to promote economic development through the tools of a Port Authority, which would have expanded powers and tools to redevelop the Savanna Army Depot.
Marty, pictured with (left to right) Warren Jackman, Mulcahey, Bill Houlihan and Dennis Dolan Crook, visited U.S. Senator Dick Durbin's office in Springfield, Illinois to meet with staff - discussing green energy initiative and the huge potential for economic growth at the Savanna Depot and the Tri-State region.
Upon his announcement for office, Marty had outlined a clear vision for regional growth. He received this recognition by and the endorsement of the
Rockford Register Star Newspaper. While campaigning for jobs and economic development on, Marty clearly and consistently outlined his vision for this regional growth. Through his Internet interview on
The Bottom Line Show, or with regional news outlets like the
Freeport Journal Standard, he was consistent and passionate with his message.
Despite a strong, well organized, and issue oriented campaign, Marty was unsuccessful in his bid to become the next Illinois State Senator from Northwest Illinois. His commitment to his agenda, however, did not stop there.
Marty worked closely with Senator Mike Jacobs, legislative leaders, and Governor Quinn's office to help ensure the passage of the bill. The legislation was signed into law on August 24, 2009 officially creating the Upper Mississippi International Port District. Representative Jim Sacia sponsored the bill in the House.
